Acer Aspire S3 is the first ultrabook on the Russian market. Kharchuvannya, work hour

We have found some of the best competitors for MacBook Air laptops! Ultrathin laptops, ultrabooks, a new generation of devices that are characterized by exceptional productivity. Moreover, ultrabooks work closely together with tablets, which is not without the benefit of a minimally thin body, and a frustrating time for autonomous work.

However, if you tried to release something similar to Apple laptops, there were some fatalities. Also, focusing on the MacBook Air, other leading companies Lenovo, ASUS, Toshiba, Dell and Acer have already released competitive laptops, but all of them were of low quality and were premium-class devices, although ultrabooks are at fault. It is aimed at a wide audience of traders. .

We are looking at the iconic MacBook Air 13, ASUS Zenbook UX31 and, no less, the famous model presented at the recent exhibition in Berlin IFA 2011, Acer Aspire S3.

Design

Having begun to appreciate the new look of your skin from laptops, we first want to know about their dimensions. Also, the Acer Aspire S3 measures 323x219x13-17.5 mm and weighs less than 1.36 kg. The body of the MacBook Air laptop is a little thick and has dimensions of 325x227x3-17 mm and a weight of 1.36 kg. Ultrabook UX31 – 325x224x2.5-17.5 mm, weight 1.3 kg. In principle, visually, Apple's ultrabook looks thinner, and can boast up to 3 mm of incremental sound. What’s important is the fact that the S3 doesn’t sound like two other laptops – the two surfaces are parallel.

All laptops that are being upgraded may have a solid body made from solid metal. The casing is made of magnesium-aluminum alloy (Acer calls its design aerodynamic metal design). The reliability of the outer surface is highly praised - mechanical damage does not affect the integrity of the design, and thus saving the display does not have to be damaged. At the same time, the skin from these laptops will lose their lungs. Before speaking, in terms of reliability, it is not possible to see any one laptop, all three ultrabooks are without a fault incredibly important - do not ripple, do not bend, the folding capacity is high.

If you continue to look at the Acer ultrabook, you will appreciate the metal cover with a polished effect. It's sleek, classy and practical. There are virtually no traces of fingers visible on the dark gray matte finish. Gostri kuti u dzhenі vіdsutnі.

The bottom of the laptop is also placed on the dock. Along the entire perimeter of the bottom panel there are four square legs. For the most part, an ultrabook is not as flat as it should be.

Display and sound

Like the ultra-thin MacBook Air and Zenbook UX31 laptops, the Acer Aspire S3 has a small, lightweight display. Your size is 13.3 inches. A widescreen screen with a separate section of 1366x768 pixels (an Apple laptop has 1440x900 pixels, a Zenbook has 1600x900) is equipped with a LED backlight and External Parties 16:9. This means that the display has a special CineCrystal coating. We will brighten and emboss the image on the screen with a halo. However, the displays of the other two laptops don’t have to sacrifice much, but the contrast is good, but in a wide view. You can also admire photos and videos from a small company. The head, with a small form factor (13 inches), allows for plenty of working space.

The glossy finish is typical for both this laptop and the Air 13 and Zenbook UX31.

You can't go anywhere with the images on such a display. In addition, the following detail was noted: when the screen is opened to maximum, it overrides the base, so the main part of the body rises above the surface of the table.

The Crystal Eye webcam is located on the laptop display frame. There is a separate image of 1.3 MP. The MacBook Air laptop has a FaceTime webcam installed in a separate HD section, which is nicely quiet, whereas earlier models had an analog one. The smallest product is the Asus UX31 webcam – 0.3 MP, and is only suitable for sharing on Skype.

Behind the acoustics on the right, go this way. The Aspire S3 ultraportable laptop has two speakers installed on the bottom panel. This audio system supports Dolby Home Theater v4, so you can slightly balance the sound, which includes bass and treble. In addition, with Dolby technology, you are guaranteed surround sound similar to that of a home theater.

The 13-inch “Apple” ultrabook is designed to provide no less clear sound, which is output through two stereo speakers. The speakers occupy the place between the left and right hands and transmit sound through the keyboard. When listening to music, you will feel a clear sound without distortion, which has both low and high frequencies.

What about the Zenbook, this ultrabook is equipped with a clear sound card from Bang & Olufsen. It’s easy to say that this is a famous lighting brand that is associated with unimproved brightness of sound and unique technologies. Also, the sound in the laptop cannot be ruined. You can really experience an almost miraculous crystal-clear sound, without compromising on the sound at maximum volume. Moreover, the acoustics with the help of ICEpower invariably sound more realistic. Additionally, the order from Bang & Olufsen is supported by SonicMaster. By the way, the acoustics produce a clear sound, similar to that of an older MacBook Air.

Keyboard and touchpad

On the working surface of the Aspire S3 laptop we have an Acer FineTip island keyboard with a standard layout. All the keyboard buttons are remarkably large, and the space between them is generous. It is clear that the width of the MacBook, which is aligned with the keyboard, is a little smaller, and the keys on this area are much larger. As if it weren’t there, but the keys press softly, easily with a wonderful response. In whose presence one does not perceive the wickedness. The backlit keys, like the 13-inch Air, are not available.

It’s a pity that the buttons on the dial block have been greatly changed, so it will have to be softened, ringing, and zrashtoy. Moreover, there are two “containers” - functional buttons and . If marking is a problem, then if you need to read clearly, there will be no problems with typing.

Unlike the Acer and Apple keyboards, which are made of plastic, the Asus keyboard is made of aluminum. The Acer S3 keyboard is characterized by dynamic operation, smooth operation, manual layout and optimal placement between the buttons.

Before speaking, the Apple Macbook Air 13 keyboard may be illuminated with light.

The touchpad in the ultraportable Aspire S3 has a large responsive area for positioning. Precisely, the boundaries of the touch manipulator should not be frequently touched, so you can work comfortably. Moreover, it supports multi-touch gestures, so you can zoom in on images, and change horizontal and vertical scrolling. This means that there are no visual “bear” buttons (in principle, like the “Apple” Air). This function is controlled by the touchpad itself.

In two other laptops, the functionality of the glass touch pad is similar - you can scroll, wrap, zoom and zoom in on the image. The only thing that makes the ASUS touchpad stand out is the button area. While in the Air 13 and Aspire S3 the “bear” buttons are located outside the touch zone, in the Zenbook there is a label that separates the right and left keys.

Processor and equipment

The Acer S3 model, like the Asus UX31, has a 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium operating system on board. In principle, this OS works reliably and has an intuitively sensible interface. In case of failure, you can update the operating system instead of the software located on the hard drive. MacBook Air 13 is equipped with a pre-installed operating system Mac OS X Lion 10.7, which starts from the SSD in 15 seconds. It's cool that the download of Windows 7 on the UX31 took 29 seconds, and the Acer Aspire S3 (with hard drive) took about 65 seconds.

The Ultrabook brings to life the concept of being productive. The Acer S3-951-2464G34iss package carries a second-generation dual-core processor Intel Core i5-2467M with a clock frequency of 1600 MHz and a cache of 3 MB. This CPU needs to be tightened so that it can easily work with resource-intensive add-ons. The Core i5-2467M on Sandy Bridge supports various technologies, including Turbo Boost, which allows the processor to accelerate to 2.3 GHz. We would like to remind you that the processor in the MacBook Air and the new one from ASUS is no less productive. The Core i5-2557M with a clock frequency of 1.7 GHz allows you to work quickly and efficiently, regardless of any complexity. The bottom line is that in terms of productivity there is no great difference between these three devices.

The Acer ultrabook has one slot for RAM, and it costs 4 GB. OZP is standard DDR3. This applies to the transfer memory of the MacBook Air 13 and Zenbook UX31. Only in Apple laptops the memory is built into the motherboard, so it is impossible to increase it.

The S3 model has a hybrid accumulator on the right. At whom all the anger of the growers is going to be saved. To save data, only the 320 GB hard drive is used, and the integration axis of the SSD storage device located on the system board has a capacity of 20 GB and only the 320 GB hard drive is used to save data. 'yati' (caching information) if the laptop is in sleep mode. In fact, this accumulation is required in order to implement the “Swidka sleep” and mittevy exit from sleep. Superniks do not have a hard drive, they only have solid state storage. The MacBook Air can be configured with 256 GB, while the Asus Zenbook UX31 model can have either 128 GB or 256 GB SATA III. In any case, the remaining models “win”, the fragments of flash drives are twice as much as the average hard drive. Apparently, you can quickly invade the system and even launch programs quickly. By the way, SSD storage devices implement everything that is extremely important for a laptop - the flexibility of work, reliability. The same noiselessness will not be a prize. However, it’s too early to please competitors, as Acer has several packages with a flash storage capacity of 240 GB.

I have great respect for graphics processing. The Aspire S3 ultrabook (as well as the other two) comes with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 video card. This controller sees memory from RAM. It’s nice that in addition to video decoding, working with office programs, photo editing, and the ability to use integrated graphics for smooth Full HD creation. Unless you have installed a discrete video card, it will not be replaced.

Testing of MacBook Air, UX31 and S3 at 3DMark06 showed that the Apple graphics accounted for the most points - 4236 points. The results of ultrabooks from Acer and ASUS totaled 3257 and 3761 points.

Ports and communications

All ports of the Aspire S3 are located at the back. Moreover, the side faces are practically empty.

Well, evil can be relieved without the confusion of audiosis.

The right-handed transfer is deprived of the card reader, but it is short-circuited. It’s better like this, but it’s completely different.

There is nothing in front of them. How would you like to add 3 mm more?

The rear panel wants to accommodate all possible ports, but there are not so many of them. What's more: a 19-pin digital HDMI interface (Asus Zenbook UX31 has microHDMI), two USB 2.0 ports and a charging socket. Please note that the laptop does not have an analog video output.

The axle of the updated laptop with Apple ports was seen in the same place on the right and left sides. Moreover, in terms of functionality and the ability to connect various equipment, this laptop is clearly superior. Judge for yourself: in addition to two USB 2.0 and a card reader, there is also a Swedish Thunderbolt port. Thunderbolt technology not only allows you to transfer data at a speed of 10 Gbps, but also allows you to simultaneously connect about six different devices to the ultrabook through special adapters, which have VGA, DVI, HDMI, Fire connectors. Wire and USB. Moreover, Apple has provided a proprietary Apple connector with inputs and outputs for connecting a microphone and headphones.

These two ultrabooks have a different set of ports. What can you say, the Zenbook UX31 has USB 2.0, a USB 3.0 interface, and also supports Charger+ technology, which allows you to charge other mobile devices via the USB port. The micro-VGA port has also been redesigned.

As for drone-free communications, the S3 ultrabook has a drone-free Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n module in its arsenal. Allow you to surf the web. Before speaking, with the help of Instant Connect technology, you can “get on the Internet” in sleep mode in two and a half seconds. Then the other two laptops cope with these tasks faster - on average, one second less.

There are three identical ultrabooks, which, however, have a new version of Bluetooth 4.0 + HS, designed for miniature devices. A characteristic feature of Bluetooth 4.0+HS is low energy consumption, due to the fact that transmission is only activated at the time of data transfer. What’s important is that this standard allows you to transfer information at a speed of 1 Mbit/s with a data packet size of eight to twenty-seven bytes.

Battery

The Aspire S3 laptop has a lithium polymer battery. It has a capacity of 3280 mAg (34 Wh). An hour of work with such a battery lasts for about seven years. This allows you to work virtually an entire working day. Naturally, what is transmitted is web surfing, viewing text documents, and not a series of films. It looks like the video will only last 5 years.

It’s good that Asus Zenbook UX31 and MacBook Air laptops work the same year with a battery capacity of 50 Wh. Zagalom competition dosit zhorstka.

If you look at an hour of work in the cleanup mode, the results are simply shocking: the Air is washed for about a month, while the Aspire S3 takes about 50 days to clean, so that the battery is constantly charged. The shortest time to charge a Zenbook laptop is just 10 days. In principle, the display of robots in the cleaning mode is not particularly significant for the rich.

Of course, it is clear that the Acer Aspire S3 laptop is an excellent “long-lasting” business device, which is appreciated by business owners who require great mobility. So the axis in the ultrabook is for which everything is transferred: a trivial hour of work on the battery, high productivity. Compared to their competitors, the MacBook Air and Zenbook UX31 do not lose any memory. The same ergonomic keyboard, but made of plastic, but no less resistant to bending. Not a less attractive design. You can't skimp on the productivity of this ultrabook. As far as functionality goes, S3 has everything a business needs.

If you try to see a clear leader from three laptops, it is unlikely that you will be able to work out more objectively. The only thing is that the Acer ultrabook still occupies a leading position - about 900-1000 dollars. Compare the Asus UX31 – 1099, and the Air is two hundred dollars more expensive.

So, if you choose this, you will no longer have to pay for one of the companies and get one of the productive supermobile laptops.

Very thin, very light, very garniy.

The Intel program has been created and introduced to the market for a new class of laptops and has moved into the practical phase - to the market for its first ultrabook, the Acer Aspire S3. ASUS models will be officially presented in Russia soon.

Let me remind you that the concept of an ultrabook as a thin and light, yet productive laptop was formulated by Intel, and at this time the company itself is coordinating the activities of manufacturers with the release of the ultrabook market. Theoretically, the concept of an ultrabook looks bad. According to Intel, it may create a new class of laptops. On the other hand, the concept itself is that as it enters the market, there are few foolish moments that cast doubt on the success of the future. In addition, a lot of material is devoted to these foods on our website.

Today we have a little bit of another topic to discuss, and that’s Acer’s first ultrabook, the Aspire S3. The wine has already appeared for sale in the USA, and will now enter the Russian market. They gave us something too unpleasant, which made serious investigation difficult. However, false rumors about the model can be eliminated in three or four days.

To be honest, after reading Intel's software statements, looking at the platforms, the main elements of the Ultrabook concept, looking at the photographs taken by different developers of the models, I was left with the impression that the whole project is like cloning, and I would see it on the Macbook Air. and it is not necessary for us to adapt in advance the consumer market, and the functionality and charisma of the laptop.

In this case, I was lucky: right before testing the Aspire S3, a Macbook Air of the last generation was brought to the office, so it was possible to compare the two models with each other.

Well, let’s face it, it’s not about alignment, but about objective information. The Aspire S3 model was officially presented on June 2, began selling in the United States on June 11, and entered our market immediately. So, what about Acer Aspire S3? Let's marvel.

Line configuration

Well, on the Acer website you can roughly estimate the status of reference for the ultrabook project. First of all, the ultrabook category is not visible, and this suggests that it is unlikely to be seen (it is not visible in the general group on the Intel website). Information about the Aspire S3 model can be found in the laptop section. In another way, in the description of the Aspire S Series line there is no word ultrabook or ultrabook. Thirdly, there is only one model available for the section (the names of Acer models can only be transferred via copy/paste, otherwise you will inevitably get confused). And this, as you can easily guess, is the cheapest among the stunned.

External appearance and body ergonomics

Acer designers chose a unique series of shades for their model. Whoever seems to be a “bear” is less worthy. You can use this laptop for three hours at a time, and the body will not acquire a calm, inconspicuous tone.

When closed, the ultrabook (I’ll try to call the Aspire S3 with the word instead of “laptop”, which has already become a hidden place) looks like a beautiful, thin toy. Thin and light models will always cope with such pressure, they are simply comfortable to hold in your hands. Previously, such thin and stylish models could be found mainly in the Sony lineup, but they were so expensive that you could buy them, only because you didn’t have enough money to spend on a toy. Acer Aspire S3 claims to be highly democratic and may be accessible to a wide audience.

I was honored with the look of a closed laptop. First of all, the enemy is like a great toy. During the testing period there is a lot to be saved.

The top cover is metal with a distinctly visible texture and an embedded Acer logo. The body is climbed, with edges and corners that are softly rounded. It looks not like a wedge, but rather rounded, suggesting a thick folder for papers. At the back of the body, in the area of the hinges, a black insert is chipped, there are still a few bits left on the body.

Regardless of the fact that the surface is smooth, you can carry the laptop by hand and it won’t slip out of your hands. The weight of a laptop is not large, around 1.3 kg, so weight won’t be a problem.

It’s a shame it’s hard to say how durable this ultrabook is compared to them. However, the bottom of the laptop, in my opinion, is plastic (possibly, reinforced, but it’s all the same), so there will be abrasions on the new one. The little metal girl is not guilty of being sloppy. Before speaking, you must carefully protect the matrix from a slight blow or vice, but through those that are thinner, it will curl, and problems may appear on the matrix. However, during normal use the reserve may deplete.

Although the movement of the hinges is extremely light, it is still impossible to open the ultrabook with one hand - the lightweight body simply rises from the table behind the lid. Trim the body with the other hand. When closed, starting at 8-10 degrees, the lid closes itself. The hinges have an unacceptable smell: the stench is not even tight, for the shell of which the lid fits under external vibration. For example, if you hit the keys hard or if the laptop stands on a soft surface for an hour, it will constantly sway. This is unacceptable, especially if you are looking at the upper part of the screen, where the amplitude is already noticeable.

The opened laptop looks calm, if not cute. In principle, for such a small amount of work, the body of other designer designs no longer requires any attention. The power button suddenly fails.

Before speaking, the Aspire S3 has a bad attitude. We have encountered this problem more than once in netbooks; ultrabooks may also be inferior to it. On the other hand, in lightweight laptops, more and more important elements are located practically under the matrix, and the front part of the body is even lighter. Therefore, the raised screen is already very important - this laptop is not stable on knees, but on a soft surface, when the screen is pulled back strongly, it will fall back.

Well, on my Aspire S3, I fought off the enemy in a purely aesthetic way. The toy is lightweight and comfortable to hold in your hands. The thin body actually looks attractive, and this ultrabook is not at all compromised by the gray color. However, it creates the necessary mood.

I'm surprised how an ultrabook can cope with expansion.

Ergonomics of the body

The section on the description of sockets for ultrabooks may be much shorter than for basic models. Through a very thin body with sharp edges, the imagination of the designers is seriously limited, and there is not much room for ports. Some ports, such as a port, VGA, DVI output, etc. can only be accommodated as a result of a small feat, and then not all at once. The whole thing is under the fence. It’s best to use thin sockets (such as USB) because they still don’t fit on slanted surfaces. That's why Acer took a more subtle approach to the ergonomics of the solution: they removed the smoothly rounded side edges, and even moved all the roses to the back edge.

Well, we can’t do anything in front, there is no such thing as a front edge.

On the left panel, close to the back, there is one universal jack for a headset (headphones + microphone).

On the right is the SD card reader slot. It is closed with a non-manual plug, as far as possible, just by touching it with a fingernail. If you often insert a card into the port, then it’s easier to simply remove the plug and put up with the fact that the socket gets full. The card is inserted and erased from the port.

All ports are located at the back, in the central black insert close to the center of the laptop. Tom skin Once in order to connect, you have to either open the laptop or close the lid, risking it closing and the laptop falling asleep.

Also, on the rear panel there are two USB ports, an HDMI video output and a power socket. Before speaking, the plug of the power supply unit, as Acer calls it, is cut, because it is plugged in at the back of the ports, you can’t insert anything into HDMI, nor into the nearest USB, you have to switch the power cable.

Formally, there is nothing special today. A metal plate covers the place where the hard drive is mounted, so theoretically in models with SSD it is not necessary.

I'm sorry to say, after all the ports have been adjusted, this model is clearly not a champion in ergonomics. Five years ago, this kind of reshaping was respected by normal people, but at the same time they were protected by hand-held, ergonomic housings (well, those who know about them). Immediately close the screen and bend over to connect the live or USB bear - you don’t have to go through it. Another option is to spin the laptop here and there on its own axis, just like the legs of the gum, so you don’t want to spin.

Keyboard

The layout of the Acer keyboard meets current standards, so there are no problems at all. I’ll immediately notice that the keyboard is made of a gray color that matches the body. The letters are painted in a white color and look very contrasting, so that there are no reading problems.

I want to see that the keyboard is compressed (for example, on the e key), but there is still a lot of space in the case on the sides. The thought creeps in that Acer is either preparing to release an 11-inch solution, and it needs a unified keyboard, or its dimensions will eventually be adjusted to Air.

A special feature is the unusual form of the Enter key. On the job, this specialness is not recognized.

The axis that is indicated on the robot is a non-hand cursor. The keys are even small, closely spaced, and the cursor block is equipped with PgUp and PgDn. It’s practically impossible to press a small key without sealing the space in real life. And the thumbs are still not big enough. In a zagalom, with a cursor, it’s easier and easier to practice.

Before the speech, after clear calculations in the body, there would be a place for an additional row of keys, so that the additional editing keys could be created in a vertical row of right-handers, and not crammed into the cursor block.

From the point of view of the layout, the keyboard is completely typical for modern laptops, the layout does not have any specific features, in general it is good.

It looks strange and unexpected in front of each other. On the right is that through the hardest efforts to reach the ultrabook in the middle, everything is packed very tightly. Don’t lose sight of these parts and the keyboard: the depth of pressure in it has changed. This key parameter corresponds to the keys of phones, or the keyboard of a large-size laptop. You'll probably guess the battles between the users of desktop keyboards and the high-speed keys of laptops, which at that time seemed even "fraudulent". Nina’s story seems to be repeating itself.

However, I cannot say that the keyboard is not easy to use. However, with a small depth of travel of the keys, it turned out to be much more silent and at the same time with a clear impression of pressing the keys. As the hour goes by, you can hear the quiet click of the keys, but it’s inevitable. Despite the noise, the keyboard is one of the quietest I've ever seen.

During the three days that I've owned the ultrabook, I've been trying to use my hands as much as possible to get to the keyboard and appreciate its advantages. In general, after calling, it is quite acceptable to work with the keyboard, it is good to use a high tempo. It’s true that I ended up with a lot of drukarsky amends from the “I couldn’t press the key” series. It is especially useful if you start editing the text of the article.

Well, the keyboard is no longer important, but it deserved me. Speaking objectively, it can be played at a high pace. I think women should go for the ease of pressure.

Additional keys and indicators

There are no additional buttons, just call the life button.

Roztashovana there is overly unsound, but not comfortable. First of all, it’s just unsound. Otherwise, to press it, the handle will be horizontal, and not vertical, as before. If you are sitting in front of a laptop, then the key has to tick, and if you are standing in front of it, it is difficult and cumbersome to launch it. Thirdly, if the ultrabook is standing on a soft surface, when you press the button (press the soft one), you can start to walk.

Additional functions of the key are standard. F3 controls the connections of wireless interfaces (when you press the button on the screen, a wireless utility with two steps appears - for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), F4 - puts the laptop into sleep mode, F5 - switches the image displayed on the external interface face, F6 - screen backlight blinks to save energy (the LEDs are turned off and the images on the screen are no longer active), F7 turns on the touchpad, F8 turns on the sound.

Everything would be fine, but it’s not easy to finish, because you have to reach for the keys, and the F1 and F2 keys closest to Fn have lost their functions.

The brightness and intensity of the sound can be adjusted using the cursor buttons.

There are only two indicators: robots will become batteries. The indicators are small, like pin heads. The indicators show two colors, orange and blue. For the work indicator: blue - laptop work, blinking orange - sleep (before speech, the ultrabook is guilty of going to hell!). For the battery indicator: blue – charging, orange – charging. In principle, the marks are accessible: they are visible both when the lid is opened and when the lid is closed, reading above average. The stench is so small that a person with a foul eye might simply not be able to see it.

In connection with Intel's announced initiative to switch to an SSD, the indicator is up to a hard drive of the highest class. The problem is that this model has an initial hard drive, and it is the main one. And the indicator was not affected at all. Moreover, the presence of the indicator does not at all mean the presence of galms when working with the disk.

Touchpad

All ultrabooks (except one) have a large touchpad with a unique shape and no visible buttons. Just for information: 99% of laptops in the PC industry now have wide touchpads with clearly visible or two or three buttons attached to the touchpad, as well as visible scrolling zones. All Apple laptops have traditionally had one button, a large touchpad, almost square, with no visible buttons, and pressing a button means pressing the entire touchpad. The connection with this is the power supply, so what are ultrabooks more similar to - laptops or Macbook Air?

The touchpad has a few recesses in the body. It’s not the best option, but I’ve been constantly making random cuts to the cursor for an hour, through which the place where the text is entered moves, and it becomes practically impossible. So, when your hand is active, you have to move the touchpad and add an external teddy bear, which is not comme il faut for a portable ultrabook, and it is not manual to connect it.

The touchpad has a full touch surface, so the button zones can also take over from the robot. However, there was no such annoying inadequate response to button pressure on older HP models (which have a single touchpad). Everything is sorted out here and everything is working well.

The touchpad, unfortunately, has a different problem - it does not always respond either to the first touch after a pause (it falls asleep), or to a weak touch of a finger on the surface. It’s as if I didn’t figure it out, but often the tricks simply didn’t work out. It really hurts when you run your finger over the touchpad, but you don’t ask and have to do it again.

There are no buttons here, just press on the touchpad itself. Which button is pressed depends on where the finger is.

Screen and sound

The matrix of this ultrabook, apparently, did not impress.

First of all, it is even more mirror-like (or mirror-like and with a low level of illumination). When watching movies, the images displayed will be much clearer than what appears on the screen. Look, this model's image is even more noticeable.

In other words, brightness. The screen has one light. With this, it subjectively turned out that at the maximum level the brightness is bad, especially with normal room lighting. However, with a formal investigation (if you look at different minds of the current illumination and are amazed), it nevertheless became clear that the brightness is not very high. However, due to its glossiness, in the minds of even strong or weak lightening, working in front of the screen may not be entirely comfortable.

Thirdly, the vertical edges of the matrix are trash. When working, especially with the text, it is especially important that there is a contrasting picture (although glossiness is important). The big man is up to work with the Internet. In the cinema, when looking at photographs, the cutouts do not appear, so either the upper or lower part of the screen glows.

Poor sound for a laptop. Perhaps, due to certain precautions, accessing Internet telephony, otherwise watching the films would not be very acceptable. However, it is possible, but not impossible: after all, it is hardly possible to squeeze in normal speakers in a super-thin laptop. From the looks of it, the price of the Aspire S3 seems to be in line with the economical series.

Testing

Now, let's move on to analyzing the configuration and productivity of the Acer Aspire S3. And most traditionally from the processor.

This installation model has a processor. This is a dual-core processor with Hyperthreading. The nominal frequency of the robot is 1.6 GHz, the maximum is 2.3 GHz. The thermal package of this processor should be set to 17 W at a technological process of 32 nm. The processor has an Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics core.

Let's marvel at the productivity of the memory subsystem.

In the Aspire S3 ultrabook, memory operates in single-channel mode. For this regimen the results are normal.

I'm fervently approaching the data saving subsystem, there's a tsikava here.

The system has two disks, an SSD and the primary hard disk. As you know, the SSD is used for deep sleep, and perhaps also used for caching.

We marvel at the productivity of both accumulators.

The results of the SSD test are even better, and the hard drive axis shows average speed.

Testing in synthetic bags

This time we carried out a very short test on a pair of synthetic bags. Such tests provide only an approximate indication of the fluidity of the system. For comparison, we took two laptops:

  • ASUS U30s: has a Core i3-2310M processor and a weak external NVIDIA 520M video card.
  • HP Probook 6360b: Core i5-2520M processor, integrated Intel video.

Based on these results, it is possible, at least approximately, to determine the level of productivity of the energy-saving processor installed in the ultraboot.

For the cob - Windows 7 operating system rating. This is the simplest test, since the rating is formed for any computer or laptop with the Windows operating system, so you can compare the results of the two systems using a test.

Cinebench test. A test from the Maxon company, which develops trivial modeling packages, so the test is an adapted version of the real engine. Both the old Cinebench R10 and the current Cinebench 11.5 are being tested.

Unfortunately, for version 10 the official description is not available. The package renders three scenes. The results show a rendering score: the productivity of one processor core, the productivity of the entire processor (the calculations are parallel to all cores), the productivity of the OpenGL graphics subsystem.

LaunchCinebench 10.0Cinebench 11.5
1 CPUAll CPUOpenGLOpenGLCPU
Acer Aspire S33559 7332 4020 11,5 1,93
ASUS U30s3447 7559 4884 15,40 2,07
HP Probook 6360b5114 10753 5038 8,41 2,85

In these synthetic tests, the Core i5-2467M performs just as well as the standard mobile Core i3-2310M, and is only slightly superior to the 2520M. Moreover, the increase in productivity when all available cores are obtained exceeds 2 times, so the increase in hyperthreading for this test is minimal.

Thus, the significant level of productivity of the Core i5-2467 version of the ULV is due to a little less than the lower level of the Core i3-2310M. It’s obvious that a laptop with such a processor is very difficult to use in our hands on a more trivial term, which we can’t verify without being used in a full set of tests.

Testing the temperature of the robot, heating and noise

Let's marvel at the frequency of the processor, the heating of the system and the case, as well as the efficiency of the system under consideration. First about the robot processor mode.

In simple cases, the processor operates at the standard Sandy Bridge frequency of 800 MHz. Your life voltage becomes 0.831 U.

After turning on Vantage, the frequency of the robot processor is immediately set to 2 GHz.

The voltage at this level is extremely insignificant, up to 0.966 (maximum - 0.971). The frequency under pressure is stable. Bringing it up to the temperature of the processor under navigation.

Before testing the cob, the temperature conditions of the components are good.

As you know, after turning on the heating, the temperature does not rise as quickly.

And the growth is rapidly accelerating. It is important to note that there is a good cooling system, but also that the processor generates little heat.

There is nothing wrong - the temperature regime has stabilized, and at a very low level, below 70 degrees.

There is nothing special in the distance.

The laptop gradually increases in temperature, but the temperature rises even more. I assume that the temperature regime under the heating is even better than normal.

And we move on to the analysis of the thermal heating of the system. For this purpose, we obtain data from the temperature of the internal components, obtained in the Everest test utility. Since core temperatures are significantly different from the temperature of the processor as a whole, stinks are generated in the temples.

During testing, the room was 24-25 degrees.

Here you can see the same data that is also on the graphs. I repeat, the temperature regime of the processor and hard drive is very good.

Everything is fine with the heated body. One thing, I think the left stand is heating up, its temperature is around 30 degrees, and regardless of the fact that the ultrabook is not in use. It’s rich, doctors, there’s nothing to warm up to, there are empty bottles under her. The rest of the stand feels like a sliver of heat. To equalize, the right stand was previously set to 26 degrees, which is room temperature.

The hottest spot at the bottom warmed up from 32 to 35 degrees, and most of the bottom became cold. The temperature of the plate on the day is always 31 degrees. The temperature of the exhaust under heating is 50 degrees.

With halom, heating of the body is minimal. The laptop is not to blame for any problems with temperature conditions due to any scenarios.

And the axis is noisily respected. Initially, after starting, the fan operates at the lowest speed possible, even if you press your ear as high as possible. Alas, it’s a pity that this ultrabook doesn’t work. If you only work in a text editor, here after a while the fan starts to turn on at higher speeds, and in this case it’s good to run a little every day in the office (cars drive outside the window, and cars drive outside the door). there are people...). The noise is at a high pitch, like a turbine. At night, the sound of the fan in the house is a little more pleasant, and it will not deprive you, but will make you feel lost. Moreover, the robot did not go beyond the office or the Internet, well, at most, with a flash video.

Thus, Acer has chosen a robotic scheme in which the fan is more active (and noisier), and the case heats up less.

Battery hours

Testing for an hour of battery life is carried out in two modes: the mode of minimal distraction (reading text on the screen) and watching a movie for an hour. Tests are carried out without using the test program. Energy saving parameters: the power supply scheme is set to be balanced, since the laptop's power supply uses its own power supply scheme with similar characteristics, and is set there. The hour when the monitor is turned on is set to "none". Other services to the living quarters (change of graphics, switching on of components, etc.) are not carried out; Screen brightness is set to maximum, drone-free interfaces are frozen. When testing, the laptop is re-installed, all utilities installed by the manufacturer are launched (except for anti-virus programs, which are uninstalled before tests).

During the hour of testing for an hour of autonomous work in reading mode, every program does not start, except for utilities that measure the hour of work on the battery.

When testing a created film from the laptop’s hard drive, the film will be played in AVI. To create a vikoryst, use the portable version of Media Player Classic to install the built-in codecs.

The rated capacity with a large battery is 37,740 mW year.

From the point of view of the koristuvach, the results will be enchanting.

From a technical and technological point of view, such an hour of autonomous work is entirely logical: the screen is rich, this installation model has a hard drive, a high-speed processor and ULV, which is also supported. And if so, drain the small battery.

Ale yaka to whose right koristuvachevi?

This level of autonomy today is average. Most inexpensive laptops run on about the same battery size. For example, this is practically the standard level of productivity of current netbooks. And models designed to go without a power outlet for a long time can be operated in the most economical mode for up to 9 years. In order not to go far for butts, offending laptops, with which we have equaled the level of productivity of the Aspire S3, these models have a battery life of 7-8 years without modification and 6-7 - with modification.

From the looks of the robot scenarios, the maximum estimate for the fourth and half year is not very rich. How can you get the maximum from your business partner, since she is alone and you no longer need to use a laptop (here you should know about the periodic “automatic” checks of mail with a sleeping laptop). Moreover, the thin and light Aspire S3 is liable to tempt the owner into taking the laptop away from him. With the Aspire S3, if you are not looking for a short trip to the business market, then you will have to deal with a great and important block of life. On the Internet, a laptop can be purchased, God forbid, three and a half years, but that’s not even a lot.

Thus, the Aspire S3 is in the middle of the pack in terms of autonomy and can only be used for a short period of time or repeat the film. It is not recommended to be near a power outlet

Operating instructions, additional information

Well, what can you say about the pouches of the three-day experience with the Aspire S3?

First of all, it’s a great game, so I think it’s the advantage of the ultrabook’s reach. You really want to twirl it in your hands, play with it... and lose it in your hands even more. I don’t want to give in.

At home, if you are not far from an outlet, it is acceptable to use it. Taking it to the kitchen, taking it from the room, putting it on top. It’s easy to carry it by hand, it’s easy to quickly (about 1.5 sec) roll over. Before speaking, having revealed such peculiarity of his affection. Although all the laptops that I have been testing for the rest of the time are thrown away almost immediately, it has been ingrained in my head for a long time that allowing it to go into sleep mode is bad, more than an hour after hour moving the cursor around the screen so that the laptop does not fall asleep. There are two reasons for this: first of all, old laptops actually took a long time to boot up (to hell) and cracked the disk for a long time. In other words, the transition from sleep to back again has a beneficial effect on programs. For example, I'm starting to have problems with the created movie from the current device (I think the player can no longer retrieve the data, unless I cancel the creation and start again - that's all). I suspect that new laptops will gradually succumb to this stereotype.

Ale has become autonomous, obviously, disappointing. This is the same subjective disappointment. With such a thin and light laptop, you really want to drag it with you. If you take it without a life block, then it will gradually discharge at the right place - at most, it was less than possible for it to be used in business, and until the end I have already begun to wonder what it is Will it happen sooner - will it run out or will the battery run out?

Moreover, the ultrabook is really thin, light and takes up very little space on your bag. Much less, the lower power supply unit consists of two cables. That same power supply unit adds 400 grams. Therefore, without a life block, it can be pulled in any case, and the axis behind it is no longer in a special bag. And in a special bag it becomes absolutely unimportant whether you have an ultrabook or a larger 14-inch laptop.

In my work, I discovered that the Aspire S3 has poor Wi-Fi sensitivity compared to other laptops and is similar to a smartphone. “An excellent laptop” that stands in charge, completely steadily catching our office traffic, and I always sit in one seat and never experience any problems with reception (although the signal level there is no longer very high). And the axis with the ultrabook did not work: even though the signal was strong (according to a special utility, 20% versus 30% for another laptop), but with which the connections were constantly breaking, the laptop was able to connect if I passed between them in the morning - had to sit down sideways. At home near the warehouses, the situation repeated itself. It’s such a shame that the antenna happened to work in a black insert in the case, and if the router is behind the back of the operator, then both the laptop case with all the stuffing, and the operator himself are at risk and there is no need to push the signal.

You'll find out that if I'm quietly sitting on the Internet, checking how long the hero looks at the length of the battery, the ultrabook has stopped catching lines in the blink of an eye, perhaps, having appeared in a passage about a filthy article. This, in my opinion, lies beyond the boundary of good and evil - especially considering that this model simply does not have any other borderline interfaces. After the re-engagement, everything was ordered, prote.

Position and top position

The most flexible power supply means for whom the ultrabook is used. At its simplest, of course, it’s like “for those who want Air, but they don’t have a penny.” Meanwhile, the alignment with Air is still in contact, but at the same time it will appear from the portrait of this model.

In my opinion, the problems with the positioning of this laptop lie not in the model, but in the concept of the ultrabook - as Intel says.

The Acer Aspire S3 looks like a cute toy. Thus, the increased profitability can generally add value to your eyepieces when purchasing, especially if they cost less. A laptop for 32, and even more for 39 or 45 thousand rubles is bought by everyone (in large numbers, by the way; people who would just pay 32,000 rubles, because they had enough, but they don’t have enough, and in they swedishly wrap the models another vibrator). However, as soon as you are informed before choosing your new laptop, there are many competitors that are faster, more functional, and also cheaper. Well, not thin, but the overpayment for a thin body turns out to be too much.

If you look at the specification, although the Aspire S3 ultrabooks are considered a simple model, for a modern laptop this one has a completely poor configuration with some special features. In principle, despite the level of productivity, the system is also at a disadvantage for current systems of the same level. The speed of the robot and the ultrabook can be used for daily tasks, to help you get the most out of them. And the axis of functionality is interconnected, also through a thin and light body. There are few ports, the stink is unbearable.

Moreover, based on the test results, modest dimensions and dimensions are known for nothing. Theoretically, an ultrabook would be better off if it were a different model, but it wouldn’t work well with a weak battery. In other words, you can carry it with you all day, but turn it on infrequently and inappropriately. Moreover, as with the generation of other, larger laptops, one becomes philosophical, then with the Acer Aspire S3 this is not the case: first of all, in its entirety it looks like a “road jam”, in another way, it is equal to a thin and light laptop that is even larger for rent If you have a living block with wires, then it takes up no more space than the laptop itself, and at the same time about 1/3 of the weight of the laptop (their weight is 400 g to 1.3 kg).

In operation, the screen and sound are not very good, and the loud hum of the cooling system is also not worthy. I really appreciate that the ultrabook doesn’t get warm, and you can now sit on your knees.

Zagalom, according to the configuration and enemies of the koristuvach, the ultabuk of disgrace. It’s a pity that a short hour of work on the batteries will completely reduce the advantage of the thin and light body. Ale tse edina vagoma perevaga suchasnogo ultrabook!

However, because of this configuration and because of the price, the Aspire S3 is more expensive than, for example, the TimelineX 3830T, which has a larger platform, better graphics, a smaller body, and a larger battery... There is no hybrid accumulator, and therefore, I mean comrades. Ale y koshtu is 3-4 cheaper per thousand. Even though the Aspire S3 is no longer available on the market, prices will likely fall.

Before I speak, I’ll remind you of the Russian prices for Acer Aspire S3 ultrabooks, which stinks in rubles.

Prices are different, or even worse, as the website still contains a description of the cheapest configuration, the distributor firmly assesses the upcoming popularity of the line.

Well, for whom is everything happiness? As a result, there is a lower decision to buy either as a gift or as something that deserves. Well, for those who need something for a Macbook Air, but don’t want to buy the Macbook itself. But I want something more similar. І very thin and light, very thin and light, as much as possible. Such people, melodiously, are few and far between.

Position

“A new class of devices” is a similar formula for marketers. Let’s get home and look at the Aspire S3: this is how the original “workhorses” now look. Light, dosit heavy for everyday tasks, with an hour for more than 4 years. Acer Aspire S3 and similar devices that are bound to start appearing on store shelves, on the one hand, simply, on the other hand, it’s all necessary to hand them over to the ruler. If you don’t care about the difference between 11 and 13 inches, if you don’t feel the weight of 1.4 kg of weight, and it’s absolutely the same as the laptop quickly drops when you sleep. In all these cases, it will be difficult for you to understand why manufacturers charge more than 35,000 rubles for ultrabooks. If everything has been handled with care for you, then we kindly ask and pray for you.

Design

Vlasna, the description of the positioning of ultrabooks is essentially “licked” from the origin – the brainchild of Apple under the name Macbook Air. It’s not surprising that these devices are very similar to these laptops. It can be faded for a long time, as otherwise it would be possible to achieve a new look, as the materials are vicorized. The fact is obvious: most devices have a logo, and all of them are either one of the Ultrabooks or the Air of Apple.

Tim is not a mensch, it is important to say that the Aspire S3 is a great choice. Just like that. People who are far from technical details, having twirled and touched this device in their hands, firmly nod and say that they would know with satisfaction that this is a working (read, a good machine with access to the limit) device.

The design is cute, in the world of suvory - suitable for both boys and girls. The Aspire S3 practically has striations on both sides and in the middle. The material is officially called “magnesium-aluminum alloy with special coatings.” The metal will be on the dot, especially if you remove the device from the bag or packaging and stick the lids on - you will feel the cold and you will get sick of it. In the middle, absolutely everything is coated with a silvery color. Move the buttons. And just in the middle the area is lined with Viconan hinges made of black-colored material.

Physical dimensions, as per the classification of an ultrabook, are quite modest: 323x219x17.5-13 mm, weight less than 1.4 kg

Keyboard, touchpad

As I wrote more, the buttons have a silvery color. The symbols are painted white. As a result, if you decide to use headphones with your laptop, the better option will be better (if, of course, you want a little turbo, as it looks like with various gadgets).

The keyboard is quite unimportant. Ale on the right here is not in the configuration of the buttons (though there are aspects here). At first glance, the text you type is somewhat ambiguous. On the right, the buttons have a short travel, which resulted in a lot of pressure being wasted when typing. The texts took revenge on a large number of drukarian blessings in the part of the subordinate letters.

Regardless of the fact that Acer chose to shorten the keys, when typing texts - I tend to work blindly - it did not cause any discomfort. Cream of micro-cursors, here is a small enter. The photographs show the quality of implementation of the S3.

The top row of buttons is also small. Ale is the primary option.

This is the result of the keyboard: typing texts by hand and, behind the great rakhunko, is obvious. One note: you need to pay special attention to the movement of the buttons. Literally in one evening, I was able to type less.

Unfortunately, there is no candlelight here.

The touchpad is great. This shortcoming is in no way comparable to that in other laptops. With this difference, to scroll you need to make a gesture with two fingers. Let me close the scrolling area so that I can tidy up all the selections.

I rarely pressed the touchpad on the touchpad - more often I just “tapped”. Pressing the right mouse button is followed by the help of the lower right button.

Screen

It's a shame that Acer didn't put a frame around the glossy screen - like the whole body, it's made of silvery matte plastic. The screen, regardless of small wear and tear, does not sag, and physical activities on the outside do not lead to separation on the display. Diagonal 13.3 inches, separate building has 1366x768 pixels. Here are some important things for laptops: you need a whole lot of work for individual work. And just in case I’m about to watch a movie, if I’m thinking of keeping you company, you can look at the side of the display without worrying about a strong change in color.

The maximum cut of the cover of the representations in the photograph.

Sound, spoil

I won’t call the sound possibilities be as visible as possible. Of course, it is necessary to take into account that the case here is small, and with this device you can provide sound when watching a movie. Perhaps fourth-generation Dolby Home Theater technology has contributed here.

Multimedia capabilities include an HDMI port for connecting to a TV or home theater, as well as a 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones. First of all, let’s get this out of the way: when headphones were connected, I had to change the volume to about 20 watts. Otherwise, positive musical vibrations were ready to save me from drumming.

Also on the side there is an opening for a 2 in 1 card reader (SD and MultiMediaCard). If there are only two USBs, it’s an insult at the rear end of the laptop. This kind of moving from one side reduces the edges (there simply wouldn’t be enough thickness to the body), and from the other side, moving from the back can be difficult to stand on knees when connected to the port of a USB flash drive.

Kharchuvannya, work hour

The Aspire S3 has a three-cell battery with a capacity of 3260 mAg. These are the little things behind the everyday world. And although Acer expects almost 7 years of work, in an hour of testing we were able to achieve the result of 4 years of watching HD video and about 4.5 years of work with text and an active Internet connection.

Energy consumption in sleep mode, as usual, is low: after 11 years of inactivity, the Aspire S3 had less than 6 watts of charge.

The adapter is small, although slightly larger, but not suitable for charging Aspire One netbooks. A full charge requires approximately 3 years.

Productivity

The complete set of our copy is as follows (S3-951):

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2467M, 1.6 GHz
  • Video card: Intel HD Graphics
  • RAM: 4 GB DDR3
  • HDD: 320 GB
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 4.0

Productivity, in principle, is restored. Intel Core i5 of another generation, frequency 16 GHz. A set of components is in the middle of the laptop in front of you. For this you need to screw 12 screws to the bottom. Don’t forget that the manufacturer conveys the possibility of an independent upgrade from the side of the koristuvachs.

For high productivity, a combined accumulator system was installed. Some configurations of the Aspire S3 have a HDD (320 or 500 GB) or an SSD (240 GB), and there is also a small 20 GB SSD storage in the middle of the case. It is essential here for the implementation of rapid awakening, as well as the acceleration of system processes. For the sake of speed, I won’t provide any data other than schedules.

And I can’t help but praise the hour and the speed of awakening. The technology is called Acer Green Instant On, and there is a demonstration in the video. Let me repeat: Aspire S3 effectively reboots in 1-2 seconds. Then we close the laptop and go to our right. When you need to do so, open the cover and press on the screen to open the OS login window.

After a good night's sleep, the laptop goes to sleep a little deeper, and then it takes about 6 seconds to be ready to work. Adjusting the behavior of the laptop when idle is done through a special security program.

Software:

Noise, heating

The Aspire S3 is noisy, like the rest of laptops. However, an ultrabook cannot be called absolutely noiseless, and even when working with the HDD option, it’s a bit of a waste of money. The cooling system copes with its own work, and you can hardly afford this ultrabook. As the temperature rises, it will become a little warmer, not more. It is acceptable that the vicious material played the role here: even if it were not an alloy, perhaps you would constantly feel the temperature rise with your knees.

Visnovki

We took a look at the first few ultrabooks we found on sale. Acer is the most powerful and balanced device. If you would like to paint something, then it will take an hour of work. Still, the three-cell battery is “damaged.” Tim is no less, and the demonstrated performance of work will generally reach serious inquiries. In extreme cases, you may end up with a power adapter for charging – it’s not that big.

Beyond other parameters, we have a working device: it is lightweight, productive, and does not get hot. When this happens, the Aspire S3 quickly turns on, has an HDMI port, and has a stand-alone keyboard - as it seems, “I don’t want to.”

At the moment, there is only one configuration of the Acer Aspire S3 (S3-951) for sale, the one we tested, at the time of initial sales the price was 35,000 rubles.

During the 4th quarter of 2011, the current configurations of the Acer Aspire S3 will be available in Russian sales:

This is not the end of Rozmov’s review of ultrabooks. I still can’t comment on other reviews, but on the website there will definitely be a review of other devices in this class.

Igor Soprun ()

In principle, it was possible to get acquainted with this model much earlier - the engineering sample of the Aspire S3 was available long ago at the Russian representative office of Acer. Ale we were not rejected - first of all, it is easy to grasp the hostility from the device through the shortcomings of the pre-series film. And the beginnings were published immediately from a full-fledged copy - exactly the same as those that have been turning up in the police of Russian stores for many days. Come on, let's see.

Before we speak, the Acer laptop that has been the subject of our protests has an updated company logo. The laptop body is made entirely of metal – made from a fabricated magnesium alloy. The cover is made of metal with the effect of rough grinding.

It’s nice to know that when developing the exterior, Acer added respect to the company. For example, the color stickers of Intel and Microsoft always introduce some degree of disharmony into the design. The stench here is not bright, gray - the color of the laptop case.

However, if we abstract from the fact that the design of the copies is practically verbatim, the laptop really shuts the eye. The bottom looks like this, so it’s not a shame to turn the Aspire S3 on this side to people - among laptops on Windows - it’s rare that you know.

All standard logos and necessary stickers are carefully applied to the insert in shiny metal, which attracts respect. In addition to the “kids are stunned” function, this detail has another, more prosperous purpose - we’ll talk about that a little later.

The laptop can break down to a great extent. However, the lid begins to take hold and the body rises above the surface.

The display of the laptop is glossy, which is not too far from an ultra-mobile device. The rare crystal matrix is complete - the original display is from AU Optronics. I can’t say what trash it is. But no one has any other remarkable achievements. The brightness is average, the contrast is approximately the same. I don’t look at the horizontal slopes, they might be trash. If it’s vertical – say no. The TN matrix is typical for inexpensive laptops.

The height of the keyboard block is avoided in Apple MacBook Air 13 laptops (and all others, by the way - all MacBooks have the same keyboard). However, the width of the Acer keyboard is approximately 2.5% smaller. This is, of course, a most serious mistake. Because Apple accommodates 79 keys on its keyboard – and it’s completely comfortable to use. And in Acer on menshu they shoved the square more Number of buttons – a total of 84 pieces.

The keyboard block is well secured and does not bend when the buttons are hit hard. The mechanics of the buttons are typical for Acer: without serious problems, but not “savoury”: the buttons are pressed with superlative ease and seem to be empty, or whatever.

The touch panel of the Aspire S3 is a fashionable “buttonless” type. There is a physical button, of course, but there is only one, and it is located under the panel. The left and right clicks are determined depending on which part of the panel the finger is currently touching. If you touch the left side of the touchpad with your finger or something, but do not press it with your right hand, then it will work as a left click.

The dimensions of the panels are quite large, but not record-breaking: 81x65 mm. Covered with dirt, the finger moves in a new way and the cursor is positioned exactly. However, the coverage of the edges of the touch panels is still compromised - the “seam” is not enough.

“Buttonlessness” actually works badly – sometimes you can click without touching the touchpad with another hand. However, this trick doesn’t have to be done all the time, so it’s better to immediately ring and touch the panels at once with just one finger. Moreover, there is support for multi-touch devices (as in Windows, it is not manual). So, if you still don’t screw the other finger, in some cases of the system you may find yourself wanting something else - scrolling or expansion, for example.

The sides of the laptop for the ultra-slim design turned out to be too thin. It would be problematic for them to contain damage. When taking over from Samsung, Acer did not experiment with flip-up panels for connectors. The sides of the Aspire S3 are simply and simply empty, practically empty. The right-hander has a device installed for reading memory cards and audio combinations.

The socket for memory cards is shortened, the card is inserted and washed halfway. Fixation of withdrawals - the card is simply inserted into the card and pressed in, including rubbing.

The front side of the body is even thinner - nothing would fit on it. That’s why everything is neat and beautifully placed on the back face of the body. There is also a new digital output to the external monitor (there is no analogue at all) and an insult to the USB 2.0 port, which is obvious. There is also food here.

The layout is on the edge. To connect the flash drive, you have to either turn the laptop with the back side facing you, or lean down and look behind the lid. It’s possible to save money for a small amount of money even though you might run into problems with particularly compact flash drives. It is simply impossible to connect anything without visual control.

Those who have a wide variety of food here make life even more comfortable. The standard unit is equipped with an L-like plug, so the wire from the adapter lies along the back of the laptop - and covers 50% of the USB and HDMI connectors. Obviously, when connected, you may need a hard control.

In general, ergonomics are not a strong point of this laptop. By hand, the Acer Aspire S3 will play both the original and the closest copy. It’s not too crazy, but it’s also foolish. Indeed, a few of the existing ultra-thin laptops by Acer designers were angled up and down. What was it that made them unique at the time of designing the powerful and insignificant model?

The tested Aspire S3 configuration had one of Intel's newest ULV processors installed - Core i5-2467M. In addition to the i5-2537M model, which we learned when testing the Samsung 900X3A, its CPU has a slightly higher nominal frequency - 1.6 GHz versus 1.4. However, the adjustments to the TurboBoost mode are less aggressive, so the processor can be dynamically accelerated to approximately the same frequency value - 2.1 GHz when assigned to two cores and 2.3 when assigned to only one of them. For the Core i5-2537M, the standard values are 2.0 and 2.3 GHz. Ozhe, processors, zagalom, practically however.

This CPU supports the AES-NI instruction set, which speeds up encryption. The only thing that is missing is the support of Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) and Intel Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d). Otherwise, a completely full-fledged Core i5 with all the advantages of this family of processors.

The memory capacity in any configuration of the Acer Aspire S3 is 4 GB and cannot be increased in any way. For these simple reasons, the memory chips in this model are soldered directly on the motherboard, and the connector for installing a standard (or even non-standard) RAM module in the Aspire S3 is easily accessible every day.

The Acer Aspire S3 has the same place as the UM67 - the letter U in its name obviously suggests ultra-mobility. For the main characteristics of this chip, I will probably describe the same as before the HM67 bridge. This means that the TDP value has been changed from 3.9 to 3.4 W. The savings are not as small as you might think at first glance. For example, it shows the differences between the nominal energy consumption of 11- and 13-inch PK displays.

There is no external graphics system available for the Aspire S3 – customers will be content with the integrated Intel HD 3000 adapter, which in this version operates at a standard frequency of 350 MHz due to the possibility of dynamic performance up to 1150 MHz. Before speaking, the new Core i5-2467M looks similar to the Core i5-2537M - in the remaining range of frequencies for the integrated graphics core there is a 900 MHz icon.

The list of configurations available in Russia and recommended separate prices at the time of initial sales appears to be current:

The price for the younger configuration of the Aspire S3 – the one discussed in this review – looks extremely tasty. Perhaps the main sales will fall on it itself. More advanced versions are very expensive. Above all, the recommended prices do not apply to such configurations. You can realize with high prices that in practice the older Aspire S3 can be purchased much cheaper. Because it is difficult to recognize yourself as a person who overpays twice as much for a device, the only competitive advantage that we can call by its proper name is an affordable price.

Yak vlashtovany laptop

The fragments of the laptop case are made of metal, and the designers are not very flexible in this situation. The body halves are secured with screws. What is good, with the original cross slot - there are no non-standard requirements for the design of the pentagonal star, like the MacBook Air. Let's face it, you can get your laptop up and running in a couple of tens of seconds, which is what we realized.

In front you can roll over because the lower part of the Viconan body is made of magnesium alloy. In the photo, unfortunately, it is not visible, but on the bottom there is the marking AZ91D - the most popular brand of Mg-alloy among laptop manufacturers.

At the same time, you can install the gate beak of the glitter plate on the bottom. It appears that this part covers the hard disk. Although the Winchester is thin, it has a 7-mm case, but it still doesn’t quite fit into the frame – I had to make a visor in the thick magnesium bottom and cover it with a thin (steel?) plate.

The upper half of the body is also made of magnesium alloy. All the filling is built in before it. To completely separate the halves, unfortunately, it depends on the wires of the Wi-Fi antenna - there are no fixations on the gap for the radio-frequency plastic insert, which, in its turn, is glued to the bottom itself - although no one wanted to attach it to the bottom the upper part of the body, creating a structure throughout disassembled.

In the middle, the computer takes up 20% of the body's volume. Everything else is an additional device. In front of us is the battery. There’s no point in trying out the combinations. The place takes up a decent amount of space, and there are only three elements of life. There is plenty of water in the middle of the Aspire S3 and the empty body, lined with thin sections. Honestly, the designers of the Aspire S3 have the potential for advanced packaging. Obviously, you can get rid of this stench here up to the S3.3 model.

As has already been said, the memory is soldered directly onto the motherboard. So just like the processor, to the point. Prufpik:

The disk system occupies approximately the same area as the main part of the motherboard. More space, of course, goes with the Winchester.

Solid state storage with a volume of 20 GB, as well as memory from the processor, is soldered directly on the motherboard.

An SSD is not suitable for saving programs or data. He also credits the implementation of the “quiet sleep” technology - Intel Rapid Start. In two words, the essence is that the laptop could go into an energy-free (to be precise - energy-free) sleep and immediately turn around. Apparently, the SSD is used for saving instead of memory.

In fact, the Rapid Start mode is not a dream. It's all a hibernation. Shvidshe, a hybrid between these two countries, which combines the advantages of both regimes. However, in the operating system it does not bear the clever name “Dream”.

From the looks of the interface, it works like a dream. It is possible to do so in this way. From now on, the laptop goes to sleep: it doesn’t hover at all, blinks lazily with the “I’m not turned off, I’m sleeping” indicator and displays itself as if it were a button. Or rozkrittyam krishki, as they put him into sleep simply by closing his eyes. However, after about an hour - in the settings you can set the values of 120 and 480 hvilins, which is called, without reaching you, the laptop will independently start the quasi-hibernation process and go into “deep sleep”.

From “deep sleep” it is impossible to get out of the pressure of the life button. However - and this is the most important consideration compared to classic deep sleep - there is no permanent involvement of the system in this case. Throwing away the laptop is practically a mittevo. As a result, Intel Rapid Start performs much the same function as the MacBook Air. Even if we didn’t check it with a stopwatch, we won’t swear to anyone in the Bible.
